During our working years my wife and I took more than our share of vacations. WE did this despite raising a large family. After a couple of hours take a long walk along the beach or other scenic spot or just locate the camping hammock some distance from the source of your favorite beverage and go get it.
In my opinion it beats getting in the car driving for a distance with the short members of the family, spending money at a tourist spot and then doing it all over again in a couple of hours. Actually many times the short members of the family prefer spending time where they can run around. Even if you only do this one day of your vacation you are way ahead.
