The ChinookRest Self-Inflating Air Mattress is an all-purpose, self-inflating mattress ideal for any backpacking excursion or family camping trip.  Features include a top fabric that is lightweight and durable, made of TPU-coated diamond ripstop nylon fabric which is great because it keeps small snags from spreading into big ones.  The anti-slip surface helps reduce sleeping bag slippage.

The bottom fabric is heavy-duty, TPU-coated nylon also with a non-slip surface.  The top quality, super strong brass valve makes inflation and deflation quick and easy. It will not break in sub-zero weather. Inside the air mattress is superior open-cell foam which also helps create rapid inflation and deflation, excellent insulation and extra comfort on rough or uneven surfaces.  For further protection and a longer life the air mattress comes with its own stuffsack and includes a repair kit.   The air mattress has an R value of 3.8 when fully inflated.

The Pillow Rest bed by Intex has plush 20.8 waterproofed flocking on the top which gives a more luxurious sleeping surface and helps keep bedding from slipping. The flocking cleans easily and is waterproofed for camping use. The camping air mattress is made with 15 gauge vinyl wave beam construction which gives a uniform sleeping surface and 16 gauge vinyl sides and bottom that is durable and easy to maintain, but with the added advantage of lighter weight and a height of 17.5” from the floor. This mattress is perfect for travelers who are looking for all of the comforts of a bed, plus the convenience of easy transport. A camping air mattress for driving vacations

I recently wrote an article about using a camping tent to save costs while taking a driving vacation. I would suggest having a self inflating and deflating camping air mattress to sleep on. The reason is really the same reason you have a camping tent that is easy to pitch. You don’t want to spend a lot of time with your camping air mattress when you move every day.

The Pillow Rest from Intex is a great example of a camping air mattress that inflates by using a built in pump. The air mattress is thicker than most giving you a more comfortable mattress to sleep on. It is 17.5 inches thick making it one of the thicker mattresses you can have. Have Fun!

A great camping air mattress for bike trips

Yesterday I met a couple on the Heartland bike trail in northern Minnesota. The Heartland trail goes across most of northern Minnesota and they were using it to bike from Portland Oregon to Minneapolis MN. To do that you need different kind of camping gear than if you camp at site you can drive to. The Chinook Trail Rest is a good example of a camping air mattress that works for this type of camping.

The Trail Rest is a self inflating camping air mattress that provides insulation from the ground. On cool days the insulation will do as much good in keeping you warm as a good sleeping bag. That way you can keep the zipper open on your sleeping bag without the cold from the ground getting you cold. Remember on long trips you will get some cold weather.

A camping air mattress with a built in pump is great

I commented in an article about a self inflating camping air mattress. Senior citizens might prefer a camping air mattress with a built in pump. The mattress is thicker making it easier to get in and out of bed. The extra thickness also can help make the mattress firm but comfortable.

An air mattress with a built in pump inflates and deflates rapidly. They are a bit on the heavy side so they don’t work well if you plan on hiking to your destination. However, most senior citizens drive right to their site.

Let’s face it; camping can be a lot of work. Pitching your tent, inflating air mattresses, laying out your camping sleeping bags all take time. You still have to deal with food and what other toys you brought. Breaking camp is almost as much work and not near as much fun. By that time your energy level is down and normally you are going back to work. One thing you can do is get a self inflating camping air mattress.

The Chinook Rest Mattress is self inflating and is designed for rapid deflating. The deflating time is important too as no one wants to spend a lot of time breaking camp. This camping air mattress is great when you stay only one night at a site but if you stay for several days one of the other camping air mattresses might be better.

A camping air mattress helps you sleep at night

There is a certain appeal to sleeping outside and breathing fresh air. Many people comment that they sleep better with the window open than with A/C on. At one time in our history adults could sleep on the ground with perhaps a few leaves or grass to soften their bed. Sleeping in a hey loft was almost a luxury. I often have wondered they did about mosquitoes.

A camping air mattress will make an adult sleep better that on the ground and some of them are almost as good as your bed at home. The outdoor air during the day and again at night helps most people. Campers who have trouble sleeping should try and get to their site early enough to spend enough time outdoors to tire them before bedtime. It does help.

A camping air mattress can help keep you warm

Have you ever thought about what would it take to be able to sleep outdoors in extremely cold conditions? What camping gear would you take with you to keep from freezing to death?  A mummy type sleeping bag rated for the cold certainly would come to mind. I would agree that a properly rated sleeping bag is critical. What about a camping tent and camping air mattress? A camping tent might be nice but a good camping air mattress is critical.

Although a camping tent if it can be erected would help keep you warm the air mattress will help even more. The reason is the ground cold will keep the sleeper cold unless there is some insulation between the sleeper and the ground. That is more critical than a camping tent.

A good camping air mattress is better for the back

Have you ever had back problems? If you have, it will make you want a good bed. Years ago the thought was the ideal bed was nice a soft. After all the person sleeping in it was used to the hard ground and it didn’t make sense to that person not to have a soft bed when it came time to buy one. Perhaps their backs were so strong it didn’t make any difference but now we know a good firm mattress is what we need. That is one value of the camping air mattress with the built in pump.

In the first years of our marriage I was the one who had to blow up our air mattress using lung power. Maybe it was because I was the windiest. The problem was it was impossible to get the air mattress real firm. That no longer is an issue with the new camping air mattresses with the built in pump.
