One of the camping tents on the smaller size that works well for an entry level tent is the Stansport Orion. At less than eight pounds it can be backpacked into one of those remote sites we often dream about. Isn’t that what makes camping great, getting into a spot where you won’t see anyone for a few days? Stansport states that it is a four person tent. If you are backpacking and like each other it does, otherwise I would subtract one.
This is a tent that a young couple wanting to take a warm weather vacation could put on a plane and camp instead of staying in a hotel. Granted you now pay for luggage but $15 dollars compared to $100 plus per night pays for itself fairly fast. Consider donating it to Goodwill on your way home instead of paying for luggage both ways.
Camping tents have changed a lot since I first started camping more than forty years ago. At that time you were able to purchase a canvas tent that was heavy but did last a long time. There weren’t as many campsites and camping wasn’t really considered an option for senior citizens. Large families simply stayed home instead of taking vacations. Except of course on the relative plan.
The Eureka Tent N!ergy 1310 is a big change in the way tents are designed. With room dividers and electric power it is almost like staying home. The nice part is you can have a night light for your children and the room dividers give you the privacy you need. With gear lofts and plenty of storage it is truly a luxury tent.
Choosing an air mattress to take camping with you isn’t real complicated. It should be based on how it is going to be used. There are air mattresses that are self inflating, inflated with a built in pump or inflated with a manual pump. As a general rule the more air that is underneath you the more comfortable you will be. Be sure you have everyone who will use it lay on the air mattress before determining it has enough air.
Forty + years ago it was a lot more work setting up camp than it is today. I used to inflate our air mattress using lung power and now our air mattress inflated with a built in pump. Take care of your air mattress and it will last for years. Don’t allow anything sharp to get next to it like tree branches.
Every year my children, grandchildren and my wife and I go on a weekend camping trip known as family camping. Family camping is one of the best things that keep the family together. The reason is everyone is together having fun but still to some degree at home. Almost everyone participates in games, sports and other camping type activities. I had wondered if the grandchildren really enjoyed it or was it just something they had to do.
That question was eliminated when some of my grandchildren came up with a song called O’ Family Camping. A good camping air mattress is a requirement so everyone gets a good night sleep so they aren’t crabby the next day.
Whether you’re going camping, backpacking, or hiking, there are a few essential pieces of equipment necessary to ensure safety and an enjoyable wilderness experience for all involved. The most important item to have is a first aid kit; it’s essential just in case of injury, snakebites, or infection. It’s also important to have a reliable compass, like a Brunton compass, and map. When venturing into the wilderness apparel like warm clothing, rain gear, gloves, and hiking boots can help you to stay dry and warm if you happen to become cold. Hypothermia can be a real danger in the outdoors, even in warmer locations where you wouldn’t think it.
It’s also important to notify a close family member or friend where you are going and when you intend to come back. If you are lost or injured in the wilderness and no one knows about it, you run the risk of not being found until it’s too late.
The ChinookRest self-inflating air mattresses are ideal for any backpacking excursion or family camping trip. These camping accessories are ideal for camping for several reasons. They take up less space when deflated, inflate by themselves and provide protection from the cold hard ground. This air mattress features lightweight and durable, TPU-coated diamond ripstop nylon fabric with an anti-slip surface that keeps your sleeping bag where it belongs, on top of the air mattress! The bottom of the air mattress features TPU-coated nylon with a non-slip surface to keep the air mattress where you put it in the tent. The air mattress construction consists of superior open-cell foam for rapid inflation/deflation, excellent insulation and extra comfort on rough or uneven surfaces. Because these air mattresses take up less room they make ideal sleeping gear for children, you can easily take 4 or more with you without having to use a compartment on top of the car.
This rugged backcountry family/group camping tent features Chinook’s freestanding ridged vestibule, the VestaRidge, and comes with an extra-heavy-duty oxford nylon floor for added durability. Includes all the great features found in the Cyclone 3 and more. The detachable inner divider wall converts the tent into two rooms. In addition the sturdy, 3-pole design makes this tent very stable in windy conditions.
The front vestibule makes for loads of storage and extra living space. With space for 5 to 6 people the tent is great for camping as a family. The inner divider wall provides privacy for both parents and young ones. The tent is priced under $200 to make it affordable.
Another very popular water toy is a kayak. Kayaks can be either hard sided or inflatable. Hard sided kayaks don’t have the same issues as hard sided boats since they are smaller but still have some transportation issues. They are similar to a canoe in that one person can carry them and will transport on top of the car.
Inflatable kayaks do fill a need for people with smaller vehicles or limited storage space at home. Inflatable kayaks work very well permitting people to kayak without the need to store them when space is limited. I suggest a double to encourage couples to bond during the ride. You stay together which makes it more fun for both.
Some gifts we give keep on giving. Water toys are an example of gifts that keep on giving. Living on a lake makes it easy to have and use boats on a regular basis. When my grandchildren come over during the summer time the first thing they say is grandpa will you take us out on the lake? I hope when I am in the nursing home they remember that grandpa used to take them out on the water.
Inflatable boats work very well for people who don’t have easy access to the water. The problem with hard sided boats is for most of them you need a trailer to get them easily into the water. When the trailer isn’t needed it along with the boat needs to be stored. Inflatable boats are cheaper to purchase and when not in use store easily.
There are a number of Eureka sleeping bags that shoppers can choose from and of course there are other brands as well. The Cooper River Series does have some features that make it a great bag for spring and fall campers. The mummy like construction and being rated at 30 degrees makes it warm enough for cool weather camping. The tapered construction helps keep the various body parts warm.
However, the Cooper River series doesn’t work as well for sleepovers and very warm weather camping. The reason is it would be too warm and the sleeper is better off with a light sleeping bag. If you like to camp in cool weather but do need the bag for sleepovers or warm weather camping 2 different bags might be a good idea.
