Another way to enjoy the out of doors

Sitting outside on your deck is very relaxing, and if your deck is up high enough it is pretty bug free.  Even better is hanging a camping hammock between trees or a tree and a post for your deck and laying in them looking at nature all around you as long as that nature doesn’t include biting or stinging insects.

One way to make sure your hammock is in a bug free zone is to have a hammock with netting on it especially if the netting is fine enough to keep no see ums out too! The Ultralight Skeeter camping hammocks come with an extremely fine mosquito netting to ensure that no bugs or insects enter your hammock. The built-in, double-sided zipper that runs the length of the hammock allows for easy entry/exit. The mosquito netting is suspended from two cords which are included with your hammock.  All in all this is the perfect way to enjoy the outdoors in peace.

It is easy to think of camping tents, camping sleeping bags and air mattresses when a person thinks about camping or even just sleeping outdoors.  However, other camping accessories can make a big difference in how much we enjoy sleeping outside. Sometimes people want to sleep under the stars even just at home just to do something different.

In Minnesota the problem with sleeping under the stars is insects. A Stansport mosquito net can solve that problem. Remember to really get a great view of the stars at night you need to get out of the city.

Many times city dwellers think in term of sleeping under the stars. It might be just the fact that there are far more city dwellers than country folks but I don’t hear that as much from country people. I suspect that part of the reason is if the great outdoors is a regular experience you tend not to appreciate it. Many city dwellers want to give it a try when they get the chance in remote areas or at least in areas where they feel safe.

One drawback to sleeping under the stars is insects. There are camping accessories that will make it easier to sleeping under the stars and one of them is a mosquito net. Put your sleeping bag inside it and the insect won’t get at you.

To someone who doesn’t understand camping, the thought can easily be that it is an effort to go back a time in the past when people needed to rough it to survive. There are people who do want to rough it for the joy of depending somewhat on their wits. Viewing all the camping accessories that are brought to camp sites makes it obvious that roughing it isn’t the norm.

One camping accessory that is neat is a mosquito net. Placed over an air mattress it will permit a camper to take a nap outdoors with getting bit by insects. Use this for an infant that needs to take a nap but doesn’t want to be out of site of mom. Mom can enjoy the nap too and might want to go camping more often.

A screen camping tent makes camping more enjoyable

In Minnesota and elsewhere there are a number of flying insects that annoy us on our camping trips. Actually they annoy us at home, on picnics and almost everywhere. The benefit to these flying insects is we have a large number of song birds. When camping in Minnesota get to bed early enough to enjoy the song birds at daybreak.

A screen Eureka tent works real well to control the amount of insects while eating or enjoying a cup of coffee in the evening. Put the tent around your picnic table and leave it there all day. Even with the screen tent I would suggest not leaving any food around that would attract insects.

A bug zapper for Christmas

bugChristmas time in many homes means that someone has tried to find a gift that the recipient wants, but for some reason hasn’t bought. One good idea is a bug zapper. A good bug zapper doesn’t emit any chemicals and uses a black light to attract insects. It really should be portable so it can be used camping or at home.

Think of the benefit for your recipient. They can use it on the deck or while enjoying the outdoors on a picnic or camping. Many people in cold country ting of a bug zapper as a summer time thing, but I could have used it many times on trips to Florida.

Control those late summer insects

bugAs summer winds down we have some of the last real nice days to sit on the deck or around a camp fire in warm weather clothes. In Minnesota the late summer and early fall days are also know as sweatshirt season. Although to me and many others, this might be the best time of the year, bigger flying insects are also busy. There quantity of big insects is less than smaller insects so a bug zapper works great on them.

Eureka makes a 12 volt bug zapper that runs for 8 hours with the power pack. Put the bug zapper on your deck, on the picnic table or around your camp fire an hour or so before you are ready and let it get rid of those annoying pests. The nice part is there aren’t any fumes that you for you to smell.

bugInsects can ruin your time off whether you are on the deck, at a picnic or out camping. You can put on chemicals, but they leave your skin feeling dirty. The other solution is a bug zapper. Eureka’s 12 volt black light bus zapper is effective for mosquitoes, lawn moths, bugs, flies, wasps, and gnats.

I always look to see what other uses I can have for a product before purchasing it. The bug zapper works while camping, at home on the deck and at grandpa’s cabin. You will always be a favorite when turn it on and it starts zapping insects. The 8 hour run time is sufficient for you to turn it on a little before you plan to enjoy the evening and get rid of some of the bugs before you start.

bugInsects have a way of making outdoor experiences a little less fun. You have the option of putting on bug spray or burning an insect repellent. Another option is an electronic bug zapper. The electronic bug zapper from Eureka kills many different types of bugs using a black light to attract them. It a 7 hour run time with the E! Power pack.

This bug zapper can easily be used on your deck or at picnics. Running it for a period of time prior to using the deck helps control insects before you get started. There is a noise that could be annoying in quit areas.

Insect free camping

coghpic8686Many time campers like to take long hikes or canoe trips and pitch their tent in a remote area. Weight and size of things they can take along can limit what they can carry. One item that can easily be left home by mistake is something for insect control. However, this can reduce the enjoyment of the trip more than eating prepackaged camp food.

One solution is mosquito coils by Coghlans. These mosquito coils will burn for six hours and add very little weight or bulk to your packing efforts. The six hour burn will allow you to enjoy your evening until it is time to go to bed.
