An Eagles Nest Hammock can rekindle your romance

There are many different types of camping hammocks to and the right one depends on how do you plan on using it and where. For most families space is at a premium and limits what people can take along. That is the beauty of an Eagles Nest hammock. It rolls up into the size of a softball making it small enough to take with you. The rope you need to hang the hammock to a tree also doubles as clothes line if needed.

Actually I suggest the double Eagles Nest hammock to give you the chance to snuggle with the child to help them fall asleep. The double also could rekindle your romance as an extra bonus.

Take a camping hammock along to enjoy your childs nap

Camping with children requires taking along extra things to enable taking care of them and also keeping them happy. What is needed does depend on the age and personality of the child. Sometimes what is forgotten is remembering that the vacation or weekend also belongs to the parent. That does create an issue since if the child is real young they do need things like naps. Putting your child for a nap normally means someone has to watch them.

A camping hammock works great as a way to enjoy camping while still watching your child. Hang the camping hammock to a couple of trees and take a nap yourself or read a book. You might even look forward their nap time as a way to take a break from your camping activities.

An air mattress can have many uses

Senior citizens might prefer a camping air mattress that is thicker than a more traditional camping air mattress. When inflating the air mattress have everyone who will be sleeping on it test it at the same time to make sure that it is the right firmness. It is also good idea to have a queen size air mattress for the extra room it gives.

The nice part about a bigger air mattress with the built in pumps is they double as an extra bed when the grandchildren come over. The pump inflates and deflates them rapidly and it saves on have an extra bed you don’t have room for.

An air mattress can make your camping more fun

Living in the upper Midwest has both advantages and disadvantages. We always hear about the disadvantage listening to the weather reports in January or February. Then most of the rest of the country forgets about us. One of the benefits of our weather is we appreciate the nice weather we get. One thing that many do is go on group camping trips for an extended weekend. The weekend can be a great deal of fun. Spend all day with your friends doing the things you enjoy and roast marshmallows in the evening and tell stories.

One important item you have to have to enjoy the weekend is an air mattress. None of us are used to sleeping on the ground so it doesn’t make any sense to do it on vacation. Although many air mattresses come with a built in pump I suggest you have a hand pump along in case of power or battery failure.

A camping grill can make life easier

One of the chores that can be fun is cooking your meals over a fire. Building a fire takes time and wood but what would camping be without a good fire. Sitting around the fire telling stories are what make memories. Smores make a great treat for everyone. Many campsites have a grill that is part of their fire ring but I would suggest a portable grill so you can keep it as close to the fire as you want.

A camping stove is also needed for those time you can’t build a fire or it just isn’t worth the effort. Peanut butter sandwiches just don’t cut it as camp food for most people.

A walking staff makes it easier to walk a long distance

Everyone needs exercise to stay healthy. Senior citizens are not only not an exception but maybe it is even more critical for them. However, many of them can’t afford of belonging to a health club. The good part is almost everyone has a place they can walk. I see people walking on the beach everyday many of them senior citizens. A walking staff makes it easier for them to keep their balance.

A Cold Steel walking staff was designed by modeling it after the Zulu tribe in Africa. The Zulu tribe is known for their ability to hike a long distance.

Use solar power to power your electronic toys

Boy scouts say be prepared. What does that mean and how does that apply to your life? It might mean other things as well but one thing is it means you should have a backup plan for what reasonably could go wrong. Electronic toys come into that category. For example if you need your computer, IPod or cell phone what do you do if the power fails?

A Camping solar panel is an option if you need your electronic toys at all times. They can keep a battery charged and you can use them when you need to. There are people that feel you should be able to survive a few days without them, but if you need electronic toys then it doesn’t hurt to have a backup plan.

Teach your children how to use a compass

It is always fun to teach your children or grandchildren something new.  Their enthusiasm for new knowledge makes them fun to be around and watch. Does this mean they want to learn math on a camping trip? Of course not. What it means they want to do things that are fun and something different than what they already know. Not that you could teach most of them math anyway,

A Brunton compass can be just the thing to teach them how to find things in the wilderness. You don’t actually have to leave hiking trails if you don’t want to just let them determine what direction they should go and where different directions are. A digital compass has the advantage of being something they are used to

A Katadyn water filter makes for safer camping

I wrote an article recently on the fun of going to a remote site and living off what you took with you. Sometimes these remote sites can be public campsites with tested water but others may require you to take water from the river or lake. The problem is you aren’t sure about the safety. In actuality you should have some concerns even if there is a well unless you know it gets tested.

A Katadyn water filter will filter the water for you so you can be sure it is safe. A Katadyn water filter is used by the U.S. military to keep the troops healthy. It sure beats carrying bottled water which is also questionable.

A camping tent for remote areas

On many occasions it is fun to camp in a remote area away from your car and depend on whatever you brought with you. Some people like to backpack while others want to canoe. The advantage of canoeing is you can carry more goods than you can on a backpack. If you plan on a canoe trip see if you can have someone pick you up so you don’t have to canoe up river. A newer concept is to have a trailer behind your bike and bike to a remote site and do your thing. This works well in Minnesota where we have excellent bike trails.

One thing most trips have in common is a need for a camping tent. The SwissGear Kanderstag works well for these trips since it’s’ weight is fairly low. The nice part is it works well with camping at regular camp sites since it does sleep 4.
